Eight San Francisco 49ers (Justin Smith, NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Ahmad Brooks, Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, Joe Staley, Mike Iupati) were selected to the 2014 Pro Bowl. Of the eight, only alternate-selected rookie safety Eric Reid, will represent the 49ers on ‘Team Rice’ respectively in Hawaii this Sunday. The eight Pro-Bowl selected 49ers was tied for the most in the league with the Kansas City Chiefs.
It will be that kind of off-season for the 49ers as a whole. Normally you wouldn’t pass up $25,000 and a free trip to the beautiful island of Hawaii, but when you fall one game short of back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, Hawaii may not feel like paradise after all.
Pro Bowl weekend is a sad reminder that the NFL Season is only one week away from officially ending. Yes, that means no NFL football for the next six months! That leaves us to discuss all the topics that come up during the off-season, and for the 49ers that means the preparations to make another run at a Super Bowl.
Last year the 49ers drafted Eric Reid (1st round/16 overall), Vance McDonald(2/55) and Quinton Patton(4/128), and all saw significant playing time this year. Last year the 49ers signed a little known, untested free agent rugby player/Olympic discus thrower/defensive end Lawrence Okoye from London. What kind of off-season moves will the 49ers make this year?
From coaching changes, to free-agency, trades and even the NFL Draft, if it happens in the off-season we will have it all covered here on 49ers360.com.
