After suffering their first defeat of the season to the Minnesota Vikings, the San Francisco 49ers will look to redeem themselves against what may be a demoralized New York Jets squad. Both teams enter week four with a 2-1 record, and the 49ers are hopeful they can return to San Francisco with a solid 3-1 record. The Jets received news this week that they lost Darrelle Revis for the season with a torn ACL. Revis was the best cornerback in the NFL by a large margin and allowed the Jets to have Revis lock down the opponents best receiver for the whole game while the Jets would send waves of men at the opposing quarterbacks. That is a strategy that will likely not work with Revis sidelined (as we saw in the Pittsburgh game). Expect the 49ers to try and utilize the passing game early to force the Jets to drop extra men into coverage, and that is when the 49ers mauling offensive line will be able to open up running lanes for Frank Gore. The 49ers should not fear the Jets on offense, but let’s hope they are prepared for any possible tricks that the Jets may have up their sleeve with Tim Tebow.
